Nikolay, a young farm worker, is seen as different by other village people. He doesn’t drink vodka and seems a bit odd. After returning from an internship abroad, where he learned techniques to communicate with animals for fertility enhancement, he starts using these skills in his romantic life. Dairymaid Nastya is unaware of this and falls in love with Nikolay for his kindness, intelligence, and uniqueness. When journalists come to the farm to feature Nikolay in a report, Nastya will finally discover his secret.

About

The film balances comedy and social satire. It chuckles at the oddities of an absurd world. Each character has hidden depths. Nikolai is pretty awkward. The farm director is a former gangster. Journalists chasing innovations. Even the farm watchman and village shopkeeper have another side. They’re all "deviants" in some way and each of them will find something, even if not what they were originally looking for. It’s also a love story.

This film isn’t about the true Russian countryside. It is just as a backdrop, provoking reflection on the world. The lead roles are brilliantly performed by Liza Goncharenko ("Zhuki") and Sergey Russkin ("Peculiarities of the National Hunt/Fishing").
